“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” — Dr. Seuss

Along with delivering client work, learning should be a regular part of building your business as it can give you a competitive advantage. So, rather than trawling through Amazon or my local bookshop, I took to twitter and asked a few of my followers for their recommendations.

Here are their responses:

Will King — Founder of King of Shaves (@iamwilliamking)

Recommends: Maverick! by Ricardo Semmler

Because: “Any guy who could reinvent a business in hyperinflationary Brazil & suggests people set their own salaries is a star”

Jeremy Waite — Global Leader of CMO Programs at IBM (@jeremywaite)

Recommends: Start With Why by Simon Sinek

Because: “A timeless classic”

Kelly Molson — Owner of digital design agency, Rubber Cheese (@TheChiefCheese)

Recommends: How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Because: “Really helped my confidence in meetings and networking for the first time.”

Frank Meehan — VC SparkLabs Global (@Frank_Meehan)

Recommends: Only The Paranoid Survive by Andrew S. Grove

Because: “It’s just one of the best and my all time fave”

Paul Lindley — Founder of Ella’s Kitchen (@Paul_Lindley)

Recommends: Mission: How The Best In Business Break Through by Nick Giles and Michael Hayman

Because: “Shows how & why values based & mission based businesses win”

Shaa Wasmund MBE — Founder of Smarta (@shaawasmund)

Recommends: The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz

Because: “It changed how I thought about everything”

JP Rangaswami — Chief Data Officer at Deutsche Bank (@jobsworth)

Recommends: Peers Inc. by Robin Chase

Robin Chase — Founder of Zipcar and Veniaum (@rmchase)

Recommends: Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

Because: “Engagingly written and described how we perceive our world, make decisions. Affects how you phrase things, build websites, live”

Andy Gibson — Author of “A Mind For Business” (@gandy)

Recommends: The E-myth: Why Most Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About it by Michael E. Gerber

Tony Robinson OBE — Co-Founder #MicroBizMattersDay, Founder SFEDI Group, Co-Founder Enterprise Rockers CIC & the IOEE (@TonyRobinsonOBE)

Recommends: It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be: The world’s best-selling book by Paul Arden

Because: “It makes you not afraid to make visions reality, be original, be silly, put on a show, make mistakes, be different”

And what would I recommend? That’s easy….

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey

Because: The power of this book is in its simplicity, where you’re guided to just follow the advise to make your business and personal life more fulfilling and rewarding.

Finally, what about you? What one business-related book would you recommend and why? I’d love to hear your suggestions here or on twitter here, or leave a comment below.
